Alpha Theta

Alpha waves are generally associated with a calm, non-thinking state of mind. During meditation, alpha waves are produced. Theta waves are produced when the mind is more relaxed and on the verge of sleep. Theta waves help transition into Delta waves for deep sleep. Beta waves are produced while alert and awake. During the transition from Beta (awake) to Alpha (relaxed) to Theta (deeply relaxed) and while the brain is held in this relaxed pattern with neurofeedback, a state of mind is created that mixes reality with the subconscious. As a result, the subconscious mind is turned up while the conscious mind is turned down. Alpha Theta Neurofeedback Training aims to improve unresolved traumatic experiences. Alpha-Theta training creates a bridge between inner and outer worlds which provides the ability to process things differently. Alpha-Theta Neurofeedback provides the ability to experience deep insights which can be beneficial for those who have experienced trauma. Research has shown success in using Alpha-Theta Neurofeedback for treating substance abuse and trauma as well as been proven to improve creativity.

Alpha Theta neurofeedback is particularly useful for PTSD, though as adults we all have some unresolved issues or memories as a result of everyday stress and so this training can be useful for most people.

Alpha Theta also allows reorganization of:

  • Fears and attachment deficits related to developmental trauma

  •  Habits formed through addictive experience

  • Fears and behaviors formed during traumatic experiences

  • After improved stability and control of state with infra-low frequency training

Process

Alpha-Theta Training sessions are about 30 minutes long. For the best outcome sessions 1-3 times a week are recommended. Full 45-60 minutes appointments are required to allow for setup and check-in pre and post-sesssions.

Sitting in a chair, small electrodes will be placed onto your scalp (these electrodes don’t emit any energy and are not painful) you will have headphones on and listen to a guided meditation to help relax and clear your mind. As you continue sitting with your eyes closed listening to the guided meditation and eventually soothing sounds, you will gradually fall into the Theta state while your brain receives auditory feedback and learns to guide brainwave patterns into an alpha/theta state.

As you continue, Alpha waves will begin to decrease and Theta waves will increase. Once the Theta waves exceed the Alpha waves, you’ll be in the “crossover” state for the duration of the session. This state is where a change in thoughts can begin to happen. Most people find alpha-theta training relaxing.
