Infra-low Frequency (ILF)

What is Infra-Low Frequency (ILF)

Infra-Low (ILF) Neurofeedback has only been commercially available since 2012. ILF is very engaging as the feedback is embedded in movies, YouTube, Netflix and/or video games. It can be done while simply watching something on a screen like a TV show or computer game controlled by parameters (ie., a movie expands and shrinks, a race car goes faster and slower). The brain will recognize its activity with respect to the parameters and then naturally incorporate the signal into its feedback loop.

ILF training encourages a logical process toward establishing Optimal Reward Frequency (ORF) and starting sites. By listening to the patient’s experiences, the practitioner then develops an individualized training protocol. ILF training is symptom-based and results-driven, rather than being based on preconceived notions of what brainwaves should look like.

Usually, ILF training involves training the slowest brainwaves (i.e. less than .5Hz), and rewarding frequencies below 0.1Hz, which is below traditional neurofeedback reward frequencies.

These slower frequencies of the brain underlie higher brain functions linked to the faster frequencies via harmonics. By training the lower frequencies, you can affect the higher ones. It does not suppress normal emotions, energy, or creativity. Actually, it opens possibilities for patients who may not be able to reach their potential.

Infra-low frequency training provides the initial physical calming and stabilization, while Alpha-Theta training provides you with the opportunity to process unresolved traumatic experiences. It’s recommended Alpha-Theta training begins after Infra-low frequency training,
